London, 2 October 2023 – BAG&BONES, the London-based LED neon lighting & homeware design studio, is proud to announce the launch of a new collaboration with acclaimed fashion and portrait photographer, RANKIN.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Rankin said: “When you think of traditional home interiors your mind goes to beige walls and stuffy landscapes. My collaboration with BAG&BONES is a middle finger to that. This isn’t your mum’s interior design, this is art for the home with personality and punch.”

Known for portraits with attitude, Rankin is bringing neon lights into his world and disrupting  modern interiors. Each piece uses a unique Rankin phrase, or symbol, based on his handwriting, to combine the history of sleazy soho neon with tongue-in-cheek modern aesthetics.

By utilising the lights on set and not solely adding them in post-production, RANKIN achieves a mesmerising visual effect underscored by bold, nude compositions that glow regardless of whether the piece is turned on or off. The addition of tactile, three-dimensional neon tubing on recycled acrylic is a refreshing change to a wider creative backdrop that is becoming increasingly digital - bringing the 2d into 3d.

Gigi Foyle, Founder at BAG&BONES adds: “Since our inception in 2016, BAG&BONES has been hugely inspired by London’s many cultural reference points. For more than 30 years, RANKIN has immortalised these icons and symbols through his thought-provoking work. The opportunity to work alongside one of London’s biggest creative talents was one we just couldn’t wait to dive into.”
